Isaac Gwumah

Founder & Executive Director

Isaac Gwumah is a commercial research expert whose postgraduate work expertise spans a broad spectrum of market and social research assignments. Currently, as Executive Director of the Bureau of Market & Social Research, Isaac has undertaken more than three hundred and fifty (350) commercial research (quantitative and qualitative research) and development projects.

He has in-depth experiences in both public and private sector commercial research circles for mixed method research. He has been instrumental in many private sector development and socio-economic research work. Isaac is currently the External Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Consultant for the DANIDA-funded Rural Development Fund (RDF), an assignment he has been on since 2019. In 2017, he did a major qualitative assignment (project evaluation) for T-Tel Ghana (a four-year Government of Ghana Education Sector Programme supported by the UK’s Department for International Development). He had previously carried out anthropological work in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH) sector for Water.org and the Royal Netherlands Embassy; helping them to determine effective financing models for SMEs within the sector and to review route-to-market strategies for these enterprises.

In 2012 he was the lead consultant for a nationwide UNICEF Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices study that utilized a mixed method research approach to identify strategies. In his role as Senior Management Consultant with Pentax Management Consulting Services, he played instrumental roles in the World Bank’s Rural and Agricultural Finance Programme (RAFiP) and the MiDA Agricultural Credit Programme(ACP), providing critical inputs at various stages of the projects’ impact evaluation. He has solid understanding of project management requirements for large-scale commercial research assignments and the skills to deliver on effective data analyses and reporting under such projects.

In his current role as Executive Director of the Bureau of Market & Social Research he has carried out many market research assignments for private companies such as CBG, GCB, UBA, the erstwhile Unibank, Barclays and Access Bank Scancom Ghana Ltd (MTN), Millicom Ghana Ltd (Tigo), Samsung, Diageo (Guinness Ghana Brewery Ltd), CFAO, Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd, Olam Ghana Ltd, CFAO, Petrosol and many more. He is a thought leader in the commercial research industry and in 2016 was invited to chair a panel discussion by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) as part of a larger conference event on “strengthening the use of data in national development planning.”

Isaac has a Master of Arts degree in Applied Social Research from the University of Manchester (UK) and is a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana. He is also a full member of the European Society for Market & Opinion Research, the American Marketing Association and the Africa Marketing Confederation. He has a strong academic interest in his areas of expertise and has delivered public lectures to marketing students at the University of Ghana Business School, University of Applied Management and the UPSA. He is currently the Examiner for Market Research and Insights for the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana.
